Liverpool Dutch style! Harvey Elliott confirms team has adjusted its playing system beautifully

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has made it clear that the Reds are playing a more elegant style of football than a more aggressive style after Arsene Slots took over from Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool have been a trademark team since former German manager Klopp took over, playing what has been dubbed “heavy metal football”.

However, after Klopp announced his resignation, the Reds turned to former Feyenoord boss Slot to take over, with the Merseysiders viewing his approach to management as comparable to that of the German giants.

On the matter, Elliott clearly told the media on July 29 that the Reds in the hands of Slot played in a graceful style typical of Dutch football, which was completely different from the period when Klopp was in charge of the team.

“It’s a beautiful Dutch style, it’s great, a completely different style of play, now it’s more about possession,” the 21-year-old, who started the 1-0 friendly win over Real Betis, told reporters when asked about the duo’s approach.

“The players are very excited. We play with a strategy. The atmosphere in the team is lively and the players are excited to adapt to the game.”

“It’s a fresh start for everyone. I don’t think it’s stressful, but it’s exciting. Honestly, I think we’re learning a lot very quickly.”

“It’s pre-season and we’ve only played a few games. We need to be confident in what they’ve taught us. We have to keep going if things don’t fall into place right away because everything is new.”

Elliott, who played as a false nine alongside Dominik Szoboszlai against the La Liga side, added he hoped Slot’s arrival would earn him his first senior England cap.

“I hope so. It’s up to me to work and perform.”

“You can say whatever you want, but it’s up to me to work as hard as I can in training and in games. It’s up to me. No one deserves to be blamed but me.”
